KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Ministry of Education (KPM) has postponed the decision to transfer teachers from 12 Chinese vernacular schools (SJKC) in Pasir Gudang, Johor, who were supposed to teach at other schools.

According to the portal Wilayahku, the Minister of Education, Fadhlina Sidek, stated that the postponement will remain in effect until the closely related processes concerning the learning and education of students at the affected schools can continue, and transfers will be conducted in phases starting next year.

“Actually, teacher transfers are a common matter, but we are taking this issue seriously.

“It is important to consider several aspects, including ensuring that the learning process for children is not disrupted during the teacher transfer,” she said.

She made these comments at a press conference following the Education Reform Commitment Program, which was also attended by the Chief Minister of Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Recently, the Member of Parliament for Pasir Gudang, Hassan Abdul Karim, requested that the transfers be delayed after teachers and representatives from the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), as well as the Chairperson of the School Management Board (LPS) and parents, came to meet with him to request the postponement.

He noted that they do not oppose the transfer process but believe it would be better to carry it out at the beginning or end of the year.

Meanwhile, Fadhlina emphasized that KPM will never compromise on issues involving bullying in schools.

She stated that strict action will be taken against bullies after investigations are conducted by the police.

“I want to emphasize that bullying is bullying, regardless of whose child it is—be it a celebrity’s child or a minister’s child. Bullying is bullying.

“We will not compromise on this matter. We have already taken firm action and will work with the authorities,” she said.

Previously, Spider band member Rustam Mustafah, known as Tam Spider, revealed that his 14-year-old son had been a victim of bullying at a boarding school.

He expressed disappointment with the school for being insensitive and failing to address the bullying issue.

Following Tam’s revelation, several other parents from the same school came forward to share similar experiences.
