JAKARTA: Indonesian Public Works Minister, Dody Hanggodo, has come under the spotlight after a video of his working visit went viral on social media.

Citing portal aktual.com, the video sparked debate among netizens, including allegations of private jet usage and an incident where a handshake from a subordinate staff member was not returned by him.

In the 15-second footage, Dody is seen disembarking from an aircraft allegedly used for his working visit.

However, public attention was more focused on the interaction that occurred immediately after the minister stepped off the plane.

The footage shows an individual near Dody extending his hand for a handshake, but the minister was seen continuing his stride and ignoring the young man. Instead, he chose to shake hands with the individual next to him.

The short clip later went viral and drew various reactions from netizens.

Some social media users opined that the act was seen as unresponsive to the greeting extended.

Besides highlighting the handshake incident, some also questioned the use of a private jet for the working visit.

They linked it to the government’s commitment under Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership, who has recently been actively emphasising savings and expenditure efficiency.

In the comment sections, many felt that a public official should display a more open and friendly attitude whenever meeting the public or those welcoming them.

As of the time of writing, neither the Ministry of Public Works nor Dody Hanggodo has issued any official explanation regarding the context of the viral video, including the allegations of aircraft usage and the unreturned handshake incident.
