KUALA LUMPUR: PKR Selangor Executive Council member Mohd Najwan Halimi advised UMNO leaders not to be arrogant after their victory in the Mahkota State Assembly by-election.

According to the Wilayahku portal, he noted that some statements from UMNO leaders have not added value to the political collaboration between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) as the main coalition forming the federal government.

“Don’t be too arrogant. People don’t like arrogant politicians,” he said on X.

Additionally, Najwan mentioned that there have also been statements that are arrogant, sarcastic, offensive, and belittling the roles and commitments of other coalition parties.

He stated that, in reality, there is no single dominant political party that deserves to boast as the main party after the 15th General Election (GE15).

“Also, no coalition is capable of forming a government at the federal level.

“In fact, BN itself was unable to form a government alone in the states of Perak and Pahang,” he said.

Najwan believes that the priority for party leaders, whether from PH or BN, should be to find common ground to strengthen cooperation and relations between the two.

He suggested that UMNO leadership in Johor could learn from the leadership of Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari in Selangor and Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad in Perak.

“In Selangor, UMNO only won two state assembly seats, but out of the spirit of unity, the UMNO assembly member was appointed to the Selangor State Executive Council (MMKN).

“Similarly, in Perak, even though PH won 24 state assembly seats, the position of Chief Minister was entrusted to an assembly member from BN, who only won nine seats, out of a spirit of unity.

“As a gesture of appreciation for this understanding, the Chief Minister of Perak appointed seven PH assembly members as members of the Perak MMKN,” he said.

According to Najwan, it is essential to learn to engage in mature and honorable politics.

“We are strong not just because we can speak well and act like heroes.

“We are strong when we unite and resolve our differences through negotiation while respecting one another.

“Alhamdulillah, UMNO has succeeded in winning two by-elections; reclaiming Nenggiri and retaining Mahkota. The people are watching,” he said.
