Fatal motorcycle collision claims life of 24-year-old in Johor

TANGKAK: A 24-year-old man lost his life, and his pillion rider sustained injuries after their motorcycle collided with the rear of a lorry at KM162.7 on the North-South Expressway (NSE).

Tangkak OCPD Supt Roslan Mohd Talib reported that the accident took place at 10pm on Wednesday (Sept 11) as the motorcycle was traveling from Kluang to Tangkak.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the rider was closely tailing a lorry before crashing into it from behind. The force of the collision caused both the 24-year-old rider and his 21-year-old female pillion rider to be thrown onto the road,” he stated in a Friday update (Sept 13).

The rider was declared dead upon arrival at Tangkak Hospital.

In a separate incident, Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat is seeking public assistance in a hit-and-run case that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man from Myanmar.

The accident occurred at 9pm on Thursday (Sept 12) when the victim was struck by an unidentified vehicle while walking along Jalan Bayu, Tampoi.

“We urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward to our Traffic Department Office,” he said.

Both incidents are under investigation in accordance with Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
