KUALA LUMPUR: After nearly nine days, the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the Indian woman who went missing in a sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India since August 23 concluded today with the operation being called off.

According to Berita Harian, although the victim, G Vijaya Lakshmi, was not found, the efforts of the SAR team, involving various security agencies and departments contributing their energy, ideas, and expertise, were still appreciated.

“Thank you for all your efforts,” said the final remarks from Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sulizme Affendy Sulaiman, who served as the ‘Ground Commander’ in front of all the SAR personnel.

Sulizme Affendy expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts of everyone involved in the SAR operation at the scene.

“Appreciation goes to everyone for your efforts throughout the operation at the site, even though the search did not yield any results.

“At least, your spirit demonstrated a high level of commitment to working together,” he said during the final assembly after the SAR operation was concluded this afternoon.

These final words were addressed to all SAR personnel, including the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the Malaysian Volunteers Department (RELA), and Indah Water Konsortium (IWK).

Earlier, during a final press conference at the location, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, announced that the SAR operation, which had reached its ninth day today, was terminated immediately due to safety concerns for all parties involved.

In the incident on August 23, the victim from Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, India, went missing after falling into an eight-meter-deep hole while walking with her family members.
