KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has urged its dialogue partners attending the Post-ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Conference in Laos to support a ceasefire in Gaza and end the brutal killings of Palestinian civilians.

According to Bernama, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said Malaysia, along with Indonesia and Brunei, jointly presented this proposal during the meeting at the National Convention Center (NCC).

“We urge our dialogue partners to ensure that Israel complies with the International Court of Justice decisions, specifically the resolutions such as Resolution 2375 by the United Nations Security Council concerning the situation in Gaza,” he told Malaysian media.

He added that Malaysia also calls on its dialogue partners to support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Additionally, Mohamad expressed appreciation for the role played by Russia, a dialogue partner of ASEAN and a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

“I have discussed with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and appreciate Russia’s role as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, which has consistently supported the Palestinian struggle,” he said.

He mentioned that Russia could play a significant role in advancing the agendas aimed at assisting the Palestinian people.

Mohamad also informed Lavrov that Malaysia hopes Russia will continue to play a role in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza.

In a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, Mohamad said both Malaysia and Turkey want an immediate end to the mass killings of Palestinian civilians.

He stated that Turkey wants Islamic countries to strengthen cooperation to pressure Israel to halt its brutality against Palestinians.

On the third day of the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related meetings, Mohamad held discussions with 10 ASEAN dialogue partners during the Post-ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Conference.

Apart from Lavrov and Fidan, other dialogue partners present included UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell-Fontelles.
