SERDANG: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim warned FELDA that the management or anyone related to the government’s land planning agency should not get caught up in misconduct and corruption.

Berita Harian reported that the Prime Minister insisted that he would not hesitate to order law enforcement agencies such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate FELDA.

At the same time, he also wants the Auditor-General to take similar action against FELDA, if the management of the government-owned agency is involved in mishandling public money.

“That’s why (in) the Auditor General’s Report (LKAN), I said the Auditor General (National), MACC should carry out the work. Don’t care who is included on FELDA (even).

“I also warned FELDA (not to be caught in a wrongdoing). Be prepared if you make a mistake! Action will be taken.

“We are doing this because we want to save the people and this country. That is the question,” he said when officiating the FELDA 2024 Settlers’ Day celebration at the national level at the Malaysian Agricultural Expo Park (MAEPS) Serdang here, today.

Also present were the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the Chairman of FELDA, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

In the meantime, the Prime Minister hopes that management who do not represent the board of directors will be appointed among those who are competent to manage fund affairs, for example in the FELDA cooperative.

Anwar also insisted that he did not want tenders related to FELDA to be managed or given to his son, son-in-law or crony.

At the same time, he admitted that there were parties who were not satisfied and even angry with his actions because he did not tolerate wrongdoing, but it was not an obstacle for the Cabinet to clean up irregularities.

“This is our responsibility. Sometimes the operation of the cooperative is important because sometimes the board of directors chooses people who do not want to be involved in fund management so that it is not managed efficiently.

“When it comes to all government tenders including FELDA, FGV and cooperatives, let it be completely transparent so that there is no attempt to misappropriate people’s money.

“I understand that this statement is not popular but I have a responsibility. In a few years (the administration of the Unity Government), we want to ensure a system of change.

“Hijrah is really in terms of our thinking and implementation. Make sure the management is efficient. Who said the country doesn’t have money? But (actually) it is lost, (having to) pay a lot of debt, high burden, hundreds of millions of lost contracts. I ask the MACC to investigate thoroughly- end of the trust,” he said.
