KUALA LUMPUR: The challenge in enacting the ‘Lemon Law’ to protect consumers in the matter of vehicle purchase was among the focus of today’s Dewan Rakyat session.

“Lemon Law” refers to laws that protect buyers of consumer goods, specifically vehicle related products that repeatedly fail to meet quality and performance standards. This law ensures that buyers can get a replacement or refund for a product that is considered a “lemon” (defective product),” Bernama reported.

According to the Standing Orders of the Meeting published on the Parliament’s website, the matter will be raised by Datuk Shamshulkahar Mohd Deli (BN-Jempol) to the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living during the Oral Question and Answer session.

Shamshulkahar wants to know the level of cooperation given by industry players to the proposed introduction of the law.

Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (PN-Langkawi) on the other hand asked the Minister of Defense to clarify whether the government has plans to review the location of the existing army camp that is far from the Malaysia-Thailand border to a more strategic location.

At the same session, Chong Zhemin (PH-Kampar) asked for an explanation from the Minister of Communications regarding the latest status of dual-network 5G implementation and the amount of equity holdings that Digital Nasional Bhd will release to the telecommunications company after the implementation of the project is completed later.

After the session, the Dewan Rakyat will continue the debate on the Audit (Amendment) Bill 2024 which was read for the second time yesterday.

The Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living is also scheduled to read for the second time the Limited Liability Partnership (Amendment) Bill 2024.
