The Progressive Wage Policy is expected to be fully implemented in October
KUALA LUMPUR: The Progressive Wages Policy (DGP) is expected to be fully implemented this October, the Dewan Rakyat conference was told.
According to Bernama, Deputy Minister of Human Resources Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad said the implementation was after the impact assessment of DGP’s pilot project in September.
He said, the implementation of the DGP pilot project started this month until August.
“Until June 2024, the Ministry of Human Resources in collaboration with other ministries and agencies such as the Department of Labor (JTK), the Department of Trade Union Affairs (Jheks), and the Ministry of Economy have organized and attended a total of 16 engagement sessions involving representatives of employers and employees.
“Based on the engagement session, it was found that the majority of employers and employees gave positive feedback on the implementation of the DGP,” he said during the oral question and answer session.
He said this in response to a question from Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali (BN-Pekan) who wanted to know about the status of the implementation of DGP at the ministry level in an effort to increase the income of workers in the private sector.
Abdul Rahman said that requests from employers to participate in the DGP pilot project are also increasing and as of today, a total of 237 out of 732 employers who have opened accounts through the DGP system, have applied to participate.
“A total of RM50 million has been provided for the implementation of the DGP pilot project including incentive payments to 1,000 employers. Incentive payments to employers are expected this October when employers submit claims that meet the prescribed conditions.
“The provision of this incentive is expected to benefit 20,000 local workers who earn between RM1,500 and RM4,999,” he said.
