SEPANG: Ducati Lenovo Team rider Marc Marquez strengthened his position at the top of the MotoGP World Championship standings after dominating the 2026 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (GP) at the Sepang International Circuit today.

The Spanish rider, who started from second on the grid, delivered an outstanding performance by taking the lead as early as the first corner of the 20-lap race after overtaking his younger brother, Alex Marquez of BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP, who started from pole position.

The 33-year-old maintained a consistent pace throughout the race in hot weather conditions before crossing the finish line in 40 minutes and 14.23 seconds.

The victory marked his seventh win of the season, bringing his total to 399 points, 44 points ahead of his closest challenger, Jorge Martin of Aprilia Racing, who was forced to withdraw from the Malaysian GP as he continues to recover from a wrist injury.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider Pedro Acosta finished second, while Alex completed the podium in third place.

“I was very focused throughout this weekend. Since Free Practice 1 (FP1), I went out as if I was doing a time attack and then tried to find the limit during practice because, as I said, it was time to take risks.

“We did that and had a perfect race, so I am very, very happy. But my mentality cannot change. I need to stay focused and keep pushing. There are not many races left, but there is still a long way to go, so we need to remain very focused,” he told reporters today.

The 2026 MotoGP season will continue with the Qatar GP from November 6 to 8, followed by the Portuguese GP (November 20 to 22) and the Valencia GP (November 27 to 29).
