KUALA LUMPUR: Newlyweds Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman and popular celebrity Bella Astillah have agreed to support each other’s careers following their marriage.
Bella said it was still too early to comment further on adjusting to life as the wife of a politician, as she had only been married for a week.
However, the singer of Lebih Indah Berpisah said she would always support her husband in his work without interfering in matters related to his political career.
“I think it is still too early to make any comments because I have only been a wife for a week. However, when it comes to his work, I do not interfere.
“Sometimes, when I see him returning home from work, I will ask, ‘How was it? Is everything okay?’
“Other than that, I do not ask too many detailed questions. I simply give him my support,” she said when met at their wedding reception at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here yesterday.
Meanwhile, Syed Saddiq said he would also play his part by accompanying Bella to entertainment events and supporting her commitments in the entertainment industry.
He said both partners needed to complement each other in marriage, rather than placing the responsibility of adapting solely on one person.
“God willing. I mean, that is my responsibility. Bella also occasionally visits my constituency. It cannot be just one person making the effort to complement their partner. We need to complement each other.
“As I promised from the beginning, this was an important discussion that could not be postponed until after the wedding.
“Even before we got married, we had already discussed our respective careers. We will support each other. At the same time, Bella also wants to continue working, and it is my responsibility to help and guide her,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bella expressed gratitude that her husband was now helping to manage various matters, allowing her to devote more attention to her children.
She said her happiness at this stage of her life also depended on seeing her children happy.
“I am extremely grateful because I finally feel a sense of relief. Thank you to my husband. Now, for example, he takes care of everything, whether it involves work or other matters, including flight arrangements.
“So, I am truly grateful because I can now focus on my children. I do not know how to thank him enough. Bella’s happiness now comes from seeing my children happy too. You can see it for yourselves. So, Alhamdulillah,” she said.
The couple officially became husband and wife in a solemnisation ceremony held on October 10.
For the record, Bella, whose full name is Dayang Nabellah Awang Astillah, 32, and Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman Alsagoff, 33, became engaged on March 28.
