Family-of-Three Killed in Fire, Two Brothers Found Embracing Beside Their Mother
KLUANG: “The saddest part was when the firefighters told me that my second son, Haziqq, was found embracing his younger brother, Hadiff, while my wife was lying beside them.
“All three of them left together. I pray they are granted syahid (martyrdom),” said a man who lost his wife and two sons in a fire that destroyed their home in Taman Titiwangsa here last night.
Khairul Nizam Wahid, 50, said he had just returned home at about 10.30 pm after having drinks with two of his neighbours at a nearby restaurant.
The recently retired cook from Kem Mahkota said he initially had no idea that his house was on fire.
As he entered the house, he was shocked to see a small fire on the sofa in the living room. He immediately pulled the sofa away and tried to open the kitchen door.
“Suddenly, the fire spread rapidly. At the same time, my wife managed to call me. I asked her what had happened, and she kept saying, ‘The house is on fire,’ several times before the line went silent.
“I tried to open the kitchen door, but I couldn’t because the smoke had already become too thick,” he told reporters at the Forensic Medical Unit of Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Kalsom (HEBHK) here today.
Earlier, it was reported that a family of three died after becoming trapped inside their home during the fire.
In the incident, which was reported at 10.44 pm, Noraini Ibrahim, 49, and her two sons — Khairul Nur Haziqq Khairul Nizam, 18, and Khairul Nur Hadiff, 11 — were found dead in a bedroom on the upper floor of the house.
Recounting the incident further, Khairul Nizam said one of his neighbours also tried to enter the burning room but was unsuccessful.
“My neighbour, who is from Pakistan, even climbed onto the roof to try to save them, but it was too late because the fire had already spread.
“If I could, I would have risked my own life, but there was no ladder and I couldn’t climb up from outside,” he said.
He described the loss of his wife and two sons as the greatest tragedy of his life.
“We were very close. We never spent a day apart. The four of us always went out together.
“Even when we were apart, it was only for a short while because they loved going bowling every night. But last night, they didn’t go.”
