Sarawak Flying Doctor Service Operations Temporarily Suspended
PUTRAJAYA: Operations of the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) in Sarawak have been temporarily suspended following the helicopter crash involving an aircraft used for the service in Long Lellang two days ago.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the suspension is intended to allow the relevant authorities to conduct investigations and review the service’s safety and operational mechanisms.
“Medical evacuation (Medevac) services for emergency cases will continue through the collaboration between the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM).
“At the same time, the MOH will hold further discussions with the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) to explore the use of MAF assets to transport patients requiring emergency treatment to appropriate healthcare facilities,” he said in a statement today.
The Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash occurred in Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, Sarawak, on Tuesday, Sept 8, 2026, at approximately 3.40 pm.
According to the authorities, the BO-105 helicopter, registration 9M-LLF, carrying one pilot and four Ministry of Health personnel, crashed near the Long Lellang STOLport while conducting an FDS mission.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) received notification of the incident at 3.58 pm.
Those killed in the crash were medical officer Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, pilot Captain Zainol, assistant medical officer Alexson Adit, and two nurses, Debra Moset and Jessie Paya.
