SHAH ALAM: The Selangor contingent is fully prepared ahead of the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), with all preparations now running smoothly.
Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Executive Councillor Mohd Najwan Halimi said athlete training, team management and logistics coordination are progressing well to ensure the host contingent delivers their best performance at the Games, reported RTM.
“Alhamdulillah, at every local authority we have visited, all the infrastructure preparations that we will be using are in good and complete condition, not only for SUKMA but also for other tournaments that can utilise these facilities.
“At each local authority, these upgraded facilities are not solely for SUKMA preparations, but after this, the public can also use and benefit from these facilities,” he said.
He said this after officiating the SUKMA 2026 Torch Run Tour at Dataran Petaling Jaya, which was participated by approximately 800 participants.
At the event, the SUKMA torch was handed over by the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) as a symbol of the tour’s continuation, which involves 12 Local Authorities (PBT) in Selangor.
Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya Mayor, Datuk Mohamad Zahri Samingon, said five sports facilities owned by MBPJ have been selected as venues for several SUKMA Selangor 2026 events.
According to him, these include the Football Stadium, Hockey Stadium, Astaka Sports Complex for squash events, Kelana Jaya Complex (tennis), and Arena Complex (BMX).
“MBPJ extends its thanks to the State Government for selecting Petaling Jaya as five main venues.
“Our preparations are now fully ready to welcome guests and athletes for the purpose of SUKMA 2026,” he said.
SUKMA 2026 is scheduled to take place from August 15 to 24, while PARA SUKMA 2026 will be held from September 5 to 14.
The Games will feature 469 events across 37 sports, while Para SUKMA involves 316 events encompassing 10 sports.
Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam has been selected as the venue for the SUKMA 2026 opening ceremony, which is expected to be held in a modest but lively manner.
