Negeri Sembilan State Election: Police Open Seven Investigation Papers

SEREMBAN: Seven investigation papers related to electoral offences have been opened during the campaigning period for the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election as of yesterday, said State Police Chief, Datuk Alzafny Ahmad.

He said of that total, two investigation papers were opened yesterday involving offences under Section 427 of the Penal Code, namely committing mischief causing loss or damage to property.

“Cumulatively, from 18 to 22 July, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Negeri Sembilan received 12 reports related to electoral offences,” he said in a statement today.

In addition, he said a total of 53 permit applications for the organisation of ceramah and campaign activities were received and approved yesterday, bringing the total number of permits approved to 226.

“All political programmes and activities held are monitored by PDRM to ensure their organisation complies with the law and does not compromise public safety and order,” he said.

Alzafny said police would continue to enhance the level of preparedness, monitoring and enforcement throughout the campaigning period, with any violation of the law to be dealt with sternly.

“The public is urged to continue to comply with the law, respect the democratic process, and cooperate with PDRM to ensure the election takes place peacefully, harmoniously, and orderly,” he said.

The Election Commission (EC) has set the early voting date for the Negeri Sembilan State Election on 28 July, while polling day is on 1 August.
