BEIJING – A light aircraft, roughly the size of a car, struck the tallest skyscraper in Beijing, sending debris falling to the ground, while police prevented people from recording the incident, reported the Bangkok Post.
The Sunward SA 60L Aurora aircraft hit the CITIC Tower, also known as China Zun, at around 6 a.m. (local time) yesterday, according to the South China Morning Post news site.
Video clips recorded from nearby buildings showed several fire engines spraying water towards smoke emanating from the 528-metre-tall tower.
People rushed out of the 109-storey building and gathered on the street near the entrance.
The impact caused debris to fall to the ground, including the aircraft’s tail. Scattered debris also struck the windscreen of a taxi.
Police prevented several individuals from taking photos or videos and asked others to delete them immediately.
It remains unclear whether there were any fatalities or injuries.
Authorities are conducting investigations to identify the cause of the incident.
