Magnitude 6.9 Earthquake Shakes East Coast of Honshu, Japan

SHAH ALAM: A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 struck near the East Coast of Honshu, Japan at 6.30 a.m. today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
MetMalaysia informed that the earthquake occurred at coordinates 40.2 degrees north and 142.2 degrees east, approximately 64 kilometres southeast of Hachinohe, Japan.
The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 79 kilometres.
However, MetMalaysia confirmed that the incident did not pose any tsunami threat to Malaysia.
