Government Should Allocate Funds to Hire Former Soldiers as School Wardens – Asyraf Wajdi
SHAH ALAM: The government should provide funding to appoint former military personnel as full-time wardens and install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at all boarding schools.
Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the move was important to reduce the burden on teachers who also have to shoulder responsibilities related to managing students.
“Like it or not, if we still believe in and want to continue the boarding school system, the government must allocate funds to appoint former military personnel as full-time wardens to ease the burden on teachers, as well as install CCTV cameras at all boarding schools,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
Asyraf Wajdi had previously proposed that the Ministry of Education (MOE) implement the initiative to address bullying while also creating employment opportunities for veterans.
He said MARA was also prepared to share with the MOE the findings of a Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) study on the effectiveness of the Pilot Project for the Appointment of Full-Time External Wardens at MARA Junior Science Colleges (MRSM).
He also said the initiative had a positive impact on teachers as they were no longer burdened with warden duties, allowing them to focus on their core responsibilities as educators.
