PARIT SULONG: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will carry out 24-hour content monitoring throughout the Johor State Election (PRN) period until 11 July to ensure the spread of fake news, unverified information and content touching on 3R issues (race, religion and royalty) can be curbed.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the monitoring process will be implemented in an integrated manner involving the Election Commission (SPR), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), local authorities (PBT), relevant agencies and MCMC to ensure that the election process runs smoothly in a peaceful and controlled manner.

“The Communications Ministry through MCMC will also help to ensure that we do not want any unhealthy, harmful content, fake news, false information, as well as content touching on 3R issues,” he told reporters after the candidate nomination process for the Semerah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat, here today.

Earlier, Fahmi accompanied Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Khuzan Abu Bakar to submit his nomination form for the DUN seat.

Fahmi, who is also PH Communications Chief, said he had been briefed by the MCMC team on the monitoring preparations to be carried out throughout the campaign period until polling day.

He also urged the public to play their role by reporting any content suspected to be false or touching on 3R issues.

“If you see any content that is false or touches on 3R issues, first report it to the relevant platform because the platform is obliged to take action.

“In addition, make a report to MCMC via the complaint portal at aduan.mcmc.gov.my,” he said.
