BEIJING – A humanoid robot in China has captured attention after it appeared to be ‘in distress’ and was forced to beg for alms on the street, reported the Daily Mail news portal.

The incident occurred at a street corner in Sichuan province, southwestern China, recently.

In a video clip that went viral on social media, the humanoid robot was seen in a kneeling position, clasping its hands together while bowing respectfully to passers-by in the area.

More amusingly, an LED signboard and a loudspeaker attached to the robot displayed a message claiming it had ‘no money to recharge’ apart from pleading for public help to ‘pay its electricity bills’.

In front of the robot, a small plate was placed to collect coins, in addition to being equipped with a QR code display to allow the public to make direct digital payments.
