KUALA LUMPUR: The construction of the Heritage Mosque in front of the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) Tower will proceed as planned despite calls from certain parties for the project to be cancelled.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Dr. Zulkifli Hasan said the project is a long-standing plan that will be implemented to strengthen the role of mosques as a centre for community harmony.

“We will proceed because this is a plan that has been in place for a long time and, God willing, we pray that we will be able to implement it,” he said during the Delivery of the Mandate and Appointment Letters for Members of the Mosque and Friday Prayer Surau Congregational Committees for the Federal Territories at Masjid Al-Khadijah, Pantai Dalam, here today.

According to him, parties with concerns regarding the project can seek further clarification from the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP).

Previously, there were parties reportedly urging the cancellation of the Heritage Mosque construction as it was said to have the potential to create disharmony and dissatisfaction among the community.

Zulkifli said those with concerns regarding the mosque construction can seek clarification from MAIWP.

Earlier, Zulkifli presented appointment letters to Members of the Congregational Committee (AJK) for Mosques and Friday Prayer Suraus in the Federal Territories for the 2026 to 2029 session at Masjid Al-Khadijah, Kampung Pantai Dalam.

During the ceremony, he informed that a total of 3,010 nominations for AJK members of Mosques and Friday Prayer Suraus were received, involving 91 mosques and 124 Friday prayer suraus in the Federal Territories for the session from June 16, 2026 to June 15, 2029.

From that total, 2,914 candidates were selected after undergoing a screening process involving the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Insolvency Department.
