Religious Secondary School Student Regrets Involvement in Girlfriend Rape Case
KUANTAN: “The test as a former religious secondary school student is heavier… I could not face it until I eventually fell into the sin of zina,” said Alif, 18 (not his real name).
He said he was unable to face the temptations of a teenager’s heart when he became involved in the statutory rape of his underage girlfriend last year, which ultimately resulted in him being sentenced to 120 hours of community service over six months under the supervision of the Community Service Order Division of the Pahang Department of Social Welfare (JKM).
He said, after knowing Ani, 15 (not her real name) for more than a year, he was determined to meet the teenager in Terengganu. The episode of illicit acts began from that meeting.
“I did not intend to rape Ani, whom I considered a special girl in my life, but I was unable to resist the temptations of Satan, who enticed and persuaded both of us to try committing zina for the first time.
“The religious knowledge I have and my ability to memorise several juz of the Quran, I was still unable to fend off Satan’s temptations, and eventually we fell into the valley of vice without feeling guilty,” he said after performing community service at the Kuantan District Social Welfare Office (JKM) here, today.
Also monitoring was the Field Supervisor (Community Service Order) of Kuantan District JKM, Ahmad Faizul Aswad Mohamed.
Alif said, over the course of more than a year of their love relationship, he and Ani had engaged in illicit relations many times in bushy areas, including in the girl’s family home, until she became pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl on August 4.
He said, his family tried to clear the situation by legally uniting him with Ani for the sake of their baby’s future, but the girl’s family was not interested in accepting him, possibly due to him being unemployed and her family being well-off.
“I am now remorseful and repentant, and will not repeat my past mistakes. The sin of zina is so heavy, especially since I am a religious school graduate. I fear the punishment that Allah has prepared for adulterers.
“I want to atone for my sin by taking Ani as my lawful wife, but that effort has not succeeded. I accept what has happened and promise not to repeat it after this. I have repented and hope that the Almighty will accept it,” said the second child of five siblings.
As for Liza, 40 (not her real name), she was sentenced to 120 hours of community service over six months after committing child neglect while working at a childcare centre (TASKA) in this district last year.
“The family of the child I was caring for made a police report alleging that I acted roughly while looking after their child, causing bruises on the child’s limbs. In fact, I did not intend to act roughly.
“Actually, I mishandled the child’s limb, which caused bruises to appear. The child’s family could not accept the reason I gave, which led them to file a police report,” she said, never expecting that such a dark chapter would happen to her.
She said, the incident caused her to lose interest in continuing her career as a childcare worker at the TASKA after 20 years of service.
