Wei Chong-Kai Wun Hunt for Farewell Prize in New Delhi

KUALA LUMPUR: National men’s doubles pair, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun are determined to end their partnership by winning a medal at the World Badminton Championships in New Delhi, India next week.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun, who are part of the pairing reshuffle experiment carried out by head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi, are aware that the tournament from August 17 to 23 could be their last appearance together before going their separate ways.

“We want to look further ahead even though we have already changed partners. But the World Championships is also a major tournament. We just want to do our best in our last tournament together,” said Wei Chong when met at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM), today.

The 26-year-old player admitted that winning the championship is not a realistic target, but rather a medal would be sufficient as a perfect ending for them.

“We got the opportunity to play together and we will give our best, no matter who the opponents are,” he said.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun received a direct passage to the second round and are expected to face the United States pair, Chen Zhi Yi-Presley Smith who are ranked 25th in the world.

Wei Chong acknowledged that the opponents cannot be taken lightly based on their performance this season, but he has positive memories of having defeated the pair in the first round en route to the 2025 Indonesia Masters championship.
