Meta Delays Release of Muse Spark AI API for Developers, Report Says

WASHINGTON:  Meta Platforms has repeatedly delayed the public release of its new Muse Spark AI model API for developers, with no official launch date currently scheduled, according to a Wall Street Journal report citing people familiar with the matter.

The report said the delays come as the company continues internal testing and limited early access partnerships for the application programming interface (API), which allows different software systems to communicate and integrate.

A Meta spokesperson told Reuters on Wednesday that the company is already testing the API with selected early partners and still expects to release it sometime this month.

“The Muse Spark API will be coming soon,” Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang said in a post on X in April.

Meta first introduced Muse Spark in April as part of its efforts to narrow the gap with competitors in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence race. The model is the first in a new series developed under the company’s Superintelligence Labs initiative.

An API, or Application Programming Interface, is a software bridge that enables communication between different systems and applications.

The delays highlight ongoing competition and technical challenges in bringing advanced AI tools to developers at scale, as major tech firms race to expand their AI ecosystems.

Earlier on Wednesday, Meta also unveiled a new AI agent designed to assist businesses with daily operations, signalling its broader push to compete with rivals including OpenAI, Anthropic and Google’s parent company Alphabet.

The developments underscore Meta’s growing focus on enterprise AI solutions as competition intensifies across the global artificial intelligence industry.
