Deadly Fire Destroys Two Factories, Kills Three in Banting Industrial Area

BANTING, Jan 15 :  A massive fire ripped through an industrial area along Jalan 5, Kampung Olak Lempit, Banting, on Wednesday night, killing three people and destroying two factories, authorities said.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the department received the first report of the blaze at 10:03pm and immediately dispatched teams to the scene.

The fire, which involved an oil-processing factory, prompted defensive firefighting operations due to multiple explosions on the premises. Firebreak operations were successfully carried out to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby factories. By 1:15am, the fire had affected two additional factories but was contained before causing further destruction.

“Two factories were completely destroyed. A laboratory sustained 5% damage, while another unidentified factory suffered 1% damage,” Ahmad Mukhlis said.

Three victims were found charred inside one of the destroyed factories, and their identities have yet to be confirmed.

The operation involved personnel from the Banting Fire and Rescue Station, with assistance from teams from KLIA, Dengkil, Cyberjaya, Bangi, Petaling Jaya, Precinct 7 (Putrajaya), and Nilai in Negeri Sembilan. Volunteer fire brigades from Sri Serdang and Rantau Panjang, along with police and Health Ministry personnel, also joined the effort.
