KUALA LUMPUR: Jordan’s King Abdullah II will arrive in Malaysia for a two-day state visit beginning Sunday at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

The Foreign Ministry, also known as Wisma Putra, said in a statement that this would be King Abdullah II’s second state visit to Malaysia since May 2008.

“The state visit takes place as Malaysia and Jordan celebrate more than six decades of diplomatic relations, which were established in 1965,” the statement said.

His Majesty will be accompanied by Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, as well as senior officials from the Hashemite Royal Court and the Jordanian government.

During the visit, King Abdullah II will be accorded a state welcoming ceremony at Istana Negara, followed by an audience with Sultan Ibrahim.

His Majesty will also be honoured at a state banquet and is scheduled to receive a courtesy call from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Malaysia and Jordan share longstanding close relations, particularly in the field of education.

According to Wisma Putra, as of 2026, a total of 1,636 Malaysian students are pursuing their studies at higher education institutions in Jordan, while more than 1,490 Jordanian students are enrolled at higher education institutions in Malaysia.

“Both countries continue to promote educational cooperation, academic collaboration and the sharing of expertise, while strengthening cooperation in higher education and scientific research,” the statement said.

Wisma Putra said that beyond their longstanding people-to-people ties, Malaysia and Jordan also share a commitment to preserving peace, upholding justice and ensuring lasting stability in the West Asian region, particularly in advocating for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Bilateral trade between Malaysia and Jordan reached RM993.4 million in 2025, an increase of 15.2 per cent compared with 2024.

Trade continued to grow by another 8.0 per cent to RM740.7 million between January and August 2026, compared with the corresponding period the previous year, according to the ministry.
