JAIS Investigates Viral Post Allegedly Showing Muslim Individual Performing Religious Rituals of Another Faith
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) is investigating a viral social media post allegedly showing an individual believed to be Muslim performing religious rituals of another faith, in contravention of Islamic law.
JAIS Director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said the department had initiated an investigation under Sections 4 and 10 of the Syariah Criminal Enactment (Selangor) 1995, involving acts of worship conducted in a manner contrary to Islamic law and actions that bring Islam into disrepute.
“So far, JAIS has not been able to confirm whether the individual carried out the alleged act during the Thaipusam celebration at Batu Caves, Selangor, as claimed in the viral post.
“We also cannot rule out the possibility that the post involves superimposed images or artificial intelligence (AI) manipulation,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Shahzihan said several aspects of the case, including the location of the alleged incident, would be investigated thoroughly and promptly.
“This is to determine whether JAIS has the jurisdiction to take further action under the applicable laws.
“Matters concerning the Islamic faith and beliefs of Muslims in Selangor are taken seriously, and every piece of information or complaint will be investigated professionally, firmly, promptly, accurately and fairly,” he said.
Yesterday, media reports stated that the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) was taking action in collaboration with the relevant authorities following the circulation of several videos allegedly showing a Muslim individual participating in non-Islamic religious rituals.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan was reported as saying that his department was aware of the recordings, which were also linked to alleged acts of worship and the recitation of certain incantations.
