MIDA and Hyundai Strengthen Malaysia’s Automotive Ecosystem Through Strategic Supply Chain Partnership
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) have launched a high-impact Supply Chain Development and Partnership Programme to strengthen Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem, empower local vendors, and accelerate the nation’s transition towards a new energy and advanced mobility future.
Held from October 27 to 31, 2025, in Seoul, Republic of Korea, the five-day program brought together 12 Malaysian automotive vendors and 36 of Hyundai’s global Tier-1 suppliers. The initiative featured exclusive business matching sessions, factory visits, and technology sharing engagements, offering participants direct access to Hyundai’s state-of-the-art manufacturing and innovation facilities, including the Asan Plant and Hyundai Motor Studio.
MIDA Chief Executive Officer Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid said the collaboration underscores Malaysia’s growing strength as a regional automotive hub, aligned with the National Automotive Policy (NAP) and the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030.
“This partnership marks an important milestone in Malaysia’s journey toward becoming a leading player in the regional automotive industry,” he said. “Through collaboration with Hyundai, we are enabling local vendors to move up the value chain, enhance technical expertise, attract quality investments, and accelerate the shift toward next-generation mobility.”
The program aims to foster long-term partnerships between Malaysian and global industry players, laying the groundwork for joint ventures, technical alliances, and co-development projects that will build a more resilient and innovation-driven supply chain for Malaysia’s new energy sector.
As part of the initiative, four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between Malaysian and Korean vendors to support Hyundai’s vehicle production in Malaysia through technical collaboration and knowledge transfer.
These agreements will help strengthen Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem by providing local companies access to advanced technologies and global manufacturing expertise, improving product quality, efficiency, and technical capacity to meet international standards.
The collaboration also encourages local participation in the automotive supply chain, reducing dependency on imports while spurring innovation, job creation, and sustainable industrial growth.
Jahabarnisa Haja Mohideen, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor Malaysia, reaffirmed Hyundai’s long-term commitment to Malaysia as a trusted partner in development.
“Hyundai remains deeply committed to Malaysia not only as an investor but as a long-term partner in progress,” she said. “Together with MIDA and our supply chain partners, we aim to drive sustainable growth that benefits the economy, the government, and our customers.”
The collaboration reflects Hyundai’s global vision of “Progress for Humanity,” emphasizing innovation, inclusivity, and technology-driven partnerships. By localizing production and strengthening Malaysia’s role in the regional supply chain, Hyundai and MIDA are paving the way for a future-ready, energy-efficient automotive industry.
