Melaka ICT, SAMB to be listed on Bursa Malaysia
MELAKA: Melaka aims to list two state-owned companies, namely Melaka ICT Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (Melaka ICT) and Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad (SAMB), on Bursa Malaysia as early as 2028 and 2029 respectively.
Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ab. Rauf Yusoh said, the move is part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of local companies besides ensuring the state’s economic growth provides wider spillover benefits to the people.
According to him, Melaka ICT is currently undergoing a company readiness assessment process and organisational restructuring as preparation towards an initial public offering (IPO) targeted for the first quarter of 2028.
“SAMB is also undergoing a company restructuring process and due diligence, with a target as early as the first quarter of 2029.
“This commitment we begin from the state government’s own ecosystem, whereby to date, we have 13 agencies, 47 active subsidiaries and four Guaranteed Companies operating in various economic sectors,” he said when speaking at the RHB-Bursa Malaysia Retail Corporate Day here recently.
Ab. Rauf explained, Melaka’s economy continues to be on a positive trajectory with the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increasing by three percent to RM50.2 billion last year compared to RM48.8 billion in 2024.
He said, that achievement is also supported by approved investment records totalling RM14.68 billion in 2025, which is the highest in over two decades.
“However, a figure as large as this should not stop as just a record for us to be proud of. More importantly, it must become the foundation for us to go further, open up more opportunities and ensure that the benefits of this growth can be felt by more Melaka residents.
Meanwhile, he said, what is more commendable is that although only eight public listed companies are registered in Melaka, there are 34 public listed companies that generate significant business revenue from their operations in this state.
He said, this proves that Melaka continues to be an important destination for investment activities and the economy of large companies.
