Proton achieves 31,504 xEV vehicle registrations

PETALING JAYA: Proton e.MAS has emerged as the fastest automotive brand in Malaysia to achieve 31,504 registrations of electric and electrified vehicles (xEV) as of July 31, 2026, just 20 months after the launch of the Proton e.MAS 7 in December 2024.

Of that total, 30,293 domestic registrations were recorded, reflecting the increasing acceptance of Malaysians towards electric mobility as part of everyday life.

PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer, Zhang Qiang said, Malaysia’s transition towards electric mobility is now entering a critical phase following the increase in consumer confidence in electric vehicles (EVs).

“Achieving over 30,000 registrations for Proton e.MAS in just 20 months shows the growing confidence of Malaysians in electric vehicles.

“It also proves that xEV is increasingly becoming a choice and part of the lifestyle of consumers when choosing a new vehicle.

“Every Proton e.MAS owner not only chooses an electric vehicle, but also plays a role in building an ecosystem that supports the future growth of EVs.

“The impact of this development will bring greater benefits, beyond just the vehicle ownership experience,” he said in a statement.

He said, this momentum is also expanding into the international market with more than 1,211 units of Proton e.MAS shipped to overseas markets.

He said, the newly introduced Proton e.MAS 5 also recorded positive developments in the international market when 130 units were exported, thus bringing the experience of affordable EV ownership to global customers.

“This achievement was recorded not long after Proton e.MAS surpassed 20,000 registrations in 2026 alone, thus exceeding the total sales of 2025 within the first six months of this year.

“This strong growth reflects the increasing momentum of xEV acceptance nationwide, in line with more consumers switching to electric mobility,” he said.

Alongside the development of the Malaysian xEV market, Proton e.MAS is now among the main drivers of growth in this segment.

Proton e.MAS 5 continues to lead the market as Malaysia’s number one EV model with 13,279 units registered.

Proton e.MAS 7 further strengthens its position as the country’s best-selling C-segment EV SUV with 12,068 units registered, while the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV has emerged as Malaysia’s best-selling plug-in hybrid model with 4,946 units registered.

Meanwhile, Proton e.MAS is now expanding its network to 58 dealer outlets, supported by 45 service centres and 10 Body & Paint centres nationwide.

The Proton e.MAS Integrated Direct Charging Map also features more than 4,700 charging points covering over 90 percent of areas nationwide.

Of that total, more than 1,500 charging points are available at over 600 condominiums, thus making home and destination charging easier and more practical for EV owners.
