Melaka PRN: ‘It’s up to the Melaka CM to work with which party’
GERIK: The leadership of Barisan Nasional (BN) Melaka is free to hold discussions with any coalition of parties for the upcoming Melaka State Election (PRN).
Its Chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said he gives freedom to the Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, to negotiate to find a meeting point in leading the state.
“I have given the authority to the Melaka Chief Minister to discuss with anyone and whatever party coalition, so that we can reach a good meeting point so that Melaka can be administered well for the sake of the people.
“The discussions, which are usually complicated, are regarding seat distribution. Discuss amicably, there is no problem that cannot be resolved,” he said at a press conference after the launch of the Strategic Plan on Social Determinants of Health for Orang Asli (NSPSDHOA) 2026-2035, at Kampung Orang Asli Air Banun, here today.
Ahmad Zahid said, Ab Rauf will then bring the results of the discussion to the top leadership before it is finalised.
“In my opinion, the decision that will be made in that discussion will be conveyed to us, the top leadership, and I will also bring it to the Barisan Nasional Supreme Council for us to finalise. God willing, there is a way for refinement, refinement to a thorough discussion,” he said.
Yesterday, Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, was reported as saying that PN is open to negotiate with BN including the possibility of seat exchanges for the upcoming Melaka PRN.
At the same time, Pakatan Harapan Communications Director, Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, was also reported as welcoming BN’s openness regarding seat distribution and described it as an opportunity that should be properly examined.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid did not rule out the possibility of attending the PAS Annual Congress if he receives an official invitation.
He said, if he is unable to attend himself, UMNO will be represented by the party’s leadership line-up at the congress.
He said, this is because he had previously attended the PAS Annual Congress in Terengganu before the relationship between the two parties went through a separation phase.
“I will look at my schedule and if I cannot go, perhaps I will ask the party office bearers to represent me. This is the latest invitation I have received. So I hope I am open-hearted and open-minded to send at least a representative to attend the congress,” he said.
