KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26: ASEAN and the United States (U.S.) will adopt the ASEAN-U.S. Joint Vision Statement aimed at strengthening a more resilient, secure, and prosperous future for both regions.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is chairing ASEAN this year, said the statement reflects the shared determination of both sides to turn cooperation into meaningful outcomes.
“Anchored on our shared aspirations for peace and prosperity, ASEAN-U.S. relations have now evolved into a comprehensive strategic partnership. The dynamic and extraordinary economic ties between the U.S. and Southeast Asia have the potential to usher in a golden era for all our nations,” he said in his opening remarks at the 13th ASEAN–United States Summit held here today.
Anwar highlighted that two-way trade between ASEAN and the U.S. reached a record high of USD 453 billion last year, supporting millions of jobs and businesses across both regions.
“Today, we aim to make the promises in this relationship even more meaningful,” he added.
Also present at the summit were U.S. President Donald Trump and ASEAN leaders, reaffirming their commitment to deepen cooperation in areas such as economic growth, regional security, digital transformation, and climate resilience.
