HULU SELANGOR, Oct 6: A woman believed to be the mastermind behind a passport stamp forgery syndicate preying on overstaying foreigners has been arrested, Selangor police confirmed today.

According to Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar, the syndicate had been operating since early this year, using a legitimate shopfront in Shah Alam as a front for its illegal activities. The operation targeted foreigners desperate to obtain fake immigration stamps for entry, exit, or visa renewal purposes.

“Each fake stamp was sold for RM500, and the premises were registered under a local woman, reportedly the mother-in-law of a footballer,” said Shazeli during a press conference in Hulu Selangor on Monday.

Police believe the woman was assisting her foreign husband, who was also previously arrested. In total, five suspects four foreign men and one local woman aged between 39 and 47  were taken into custody in two separate raids in Gombak and Shah Alam last week.

“All the suspects remain under remand detention to assist ongoing investigations,” he added.

Authorities also seized documents, fake immigration stamps, and forgery equipment, all of which have been sent to the Malaysian Immigration Department for verification. Police are now probing whether any insiders from the immigration system were involved.

Shazeli said the syndicate’s operations were exposed through intelligence work by the Commercial Crime Investigation Division of the Gombak District Police Headquarters, which discovered that the forged stamps were being used by foreigners to evade legal action for overstaying in Malaysia.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries severe penalties upon conviction.
