SEPANG, Sept 30: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured that the government will extend full support to the families of 34 Malaysians participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission to Gaza, ensuring their welfare is protected throughout the mission.

Speaking during a teleconference with the Malaysian delegates at the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) on Tuesday, Anwar said that the government’s responsibility was not only towards those on board the flotilla but also their loved ones at home.

“On behalf of the government, we will provide whatever is necessary, both for our friends on the mission and for their families here in Malaysia. I do not want their families to feel anxious or endure hardships,” he said at the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) Central Warehouse.

As patron of Sumud Nusantara, Anwar praised the dedication and courage of the Malaysian participants, describing their involvement as a historic effort to uphold justice and defend Palestinian rights.

“These are difficult days for the mission, and we are aware of potential threats, including attacks by Israel. But with their strong spirit and determination, the 34 Malaysians have shown extraordinary resolve,” he added, while offering prayers for their safety and success.

Anwar also noted that he has been in continuous contact with foreign leaders and partners to keep the GSF mission at the forefront of international concern.

Earlier, SNCC director-general Datuk Dr. Sani Araby Abdul Alim briefed Anwar on the vessel’s progress, confirming it had entered the “yellow zone” and was expected to reach the high-risk “red zone” within 28 hours, around 7pm on Wednesday (Oct 1).

The GSF mission includes activists from 45 countries, with Malaysia contributing 34 participants. The flotilla is currently sailing through international waters near Greece, carrying essential food supplies, medical aid, and a message of peace.

The mission seeks to break the blockade of Gaza, calling for an end to war and famine and demanding the opening of humanitarian corridors into the besieged territory.
