27 people evacuated following flash floods in Lenggong

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 27 people were evacuated to safety following continuous rain that caused flash floods in Kampung Sumpitan and Kampung Banggol Batu last night.

According to Astro Awani, Assistant Director of the Operations Division of the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, the department received a call regarding the incident at 10 p.m.

He said the 27 flood victims included 23 women and four men.

“Personnel from the Gerik Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by the Lenggong Fire and Rescue Station, arrived at the location at 10:56 p.m.

“The affected areas are Jalan Ijok in Kampung Sumpitan and Jalan Haji Samad in Kampung Banggol Batu.

“Upon arrival, the water level was 1 meter, and the floodwaters were beginning to recede.

“Some of the victims were evacuated and temporarily relocated to Masjid Ubudiah in Kampung Sumpitan.

“Firefighters will conduct regular monitoring to prevent any potential risks and ensure the area remains safe,” he said in a statement on Monday.

The operation, led by PBK II Kamarul Ariffin Abd Ghani and PPgB Muhammad Shukur Jamaluddin, involved a team of 20 personnel.
