SINGAPORE: The Singapore government will contribute US$100,000 (US$1 = RM4.30) as initial financial aid to support the fundraising efforts by the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) for the severe flooding affecting the eastern districts of Bangladesh.

According to Bernama, Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the donation will support humanitarian relief efforts and address the immediate needs of communities affected by the disaster.

On September 5, SRC launched a public fundraising campaign, which will run until October 31, to continue supporting recovery efforts in Bangladesh.

The organization has allocated US$50,000 to support emergency operations by providing essential aid to the affected communities through the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS).

SRC reported that over 5.8 million people have been affected across 492 municipalities, with at least 502,501 residents sheltering in 3,403 evacuation centers due to heavy rainfall since late August.

At least 52 people have died, and more than 1.2 million families are trapped in the floods across 11 districts in eastern Bangladesh.

Lakshmipur, Noakhali, Cumilla, and Feni are among the most severely affected districts, according to SRC’s statement, which cited media reports and humanitarian partners.
