SHAH ALAM: A 16-year-old boy accused of injuring a teacher at an international school in Kuching, Sarawak, yesterday has been confirmed to be no longer an active student at the institution.
The school said in a statement that the teenager is currently in police custody to assist investigations into the incident.
According to the statement, the injured teacher was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment and is reportedly recovering, with no critical injuries sustained.
“The school deeply appreciates the courage and composure shown by our teacher during the incident and wishes for a smooth and full recovery,” the statement said, as reported by Harian Metro.
Following the incident, the school immediately activated its emergency response protocols, with teachers and staff acting swiftly to contact the police and ambulance services.
Students in the affected classroom evacuated the area without any further injuries reported, while classes were dismissed early on police advice as a precautionary measure.
The school was scheduled to reopen today after receiving approval from the authorities, with enhanced security measures, including the deployment of three auxiliary police officers and security checks at the entrance.
The school also plans to hold an assembly to brief students on the incident, provide counselling support and review long-term security measures.
Members of the public have also been urged to refrain from spreading speculation or unverified information and to respect the privacy of those involved.
Earlier, media reports stated that the teenager had recorded a video before an incident in which a teacher attempted to take a sharp object away from him.
The footage, allegedly recorded before the incident, has also circulated on social media. However, its actual content and purpose remain under investigation by the authorities.
