KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15, 2025 — Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP), in collaboration with Eco-Shop Malaysia and with the support of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Federal Territory Education Department Kuala Lumpur (JPWPKL), distributed RM120,000 worth of back-to-school assistance to 600 underprivileged students to help them prepare for the upcoming academic year.

Under the initiative, each student received a RM50 Eco-Shop voucher redeemable for school supplies at any Eco-Shop branch nationwide, along with RM150 in financial assistance from YWP and DBKL.

The cash assistance will be deposited into the respective schools’ Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) accounts to help cover PTA fees as well as sports and co-curricular expenses.

The programme aims to ensure that students from low-income families are able to begin the school year with complete necessities and renewed confidence, while also reducing the risk of school dropouts due to financial constraints.

The handover ceremony was held at the Mayor’s Courtyard, Rumah Tangsi, and involved 150 primary and secondary school students accompanied by teachers from 30 schools across Kuala Lumpur.

The recipients were selected from B40 families in the capital, underscoring the programme’s objective of providing immediate and practical support to those most in need.

The initiative also reflects the need for continued collaboration between YWP and Eco-Shop to extend assistance beyond Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya and Labuan.

YWP Chief Executive Officer Dr Abdul Basir V. Kunhimohamed said the partnership demonstrated the importance of collective responsibility in supporting future generations.

“This corporate-government partnership is a reminder that every individual or organisation has a role to play in strengthening the community and supporting the next generation.

“When we work together with sincere intentions, even a small contribution can create a meaningful change in the life of a student in need. We welcome all government agencies, corporate companies and individuals to join us in this noble endeavour,” he said.

Eco-Shop Malaysia Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Jessica Ng said the initiative reflected the company’s commitment to supporting communities amid rising living costs.

“As a brand that serves communities nationwide, we have seen firsthand how the rising cost of living affects families, especially at the start of a new school session.

“We believe that collaboration with YWP, DBKL and JPWPKL allows us to contribute in a more sustainable way.

“This initiative is not just an aid to students, but an investment in future generations who will shape Malaysia’s progress,” she said.

Complementing the programme, Eco-Shop has also launched the Riang Ria Hari Sekolah campaign, running until Jan 11, 2026, to help families prepare for the new academic year amid increasing cost-of-living pressures.

The initiative reinforces the message that financial limitations should not hinder a child’s readiness for school and that affordable, smart choices can help ease the burden on families.

Through this collaboration, YWP, Eco-Shop, DBKL and JPWPKL have reaffirmed their joint commitment to empowering the younger generation through education and building a sustainable support system for students, families and the wider Kuala Lumpur community.
