What Is in Our Child’s School Bag?

Every morning, we see our children carrying large school bags before stepping out of the house. As parents, we often wonder, what exactly is inside that bag?

Of course, there are books, stationery and a water bottle. However, the more worrying question is whether the bag also carries something negative or things that should not belong in a student’s world?

Lately, there has been too much disturbing news. Some students have been caught bringing vapes, electronic cigarettes, sharp weapons and prohibited substances to school.

There are also those involved in bullying, gangsterism and the dissemination of pornographic content via smartphones. All this makes us realise that the threat to our children today is no longer just outside the school gate, but can be inside the bag they carry every day.

As parents, we cannot assume our child is not influenced. Sometimes they do not intend to do wrong, but are influenced by peers or want to try something considered a ‘trend’.

That is why checking the child’s school bag occasionally does not mean we do not trust them, but rather a sign of love and responsibility to ensure they remain on the right path.

At the same time, communication between parents and children must be strengthened. Do not just ask about exam results or homework, but also ask who their friends are, what is happening at school and what is currently trending among students.

When a close relationship is established, children are more likely to share their problems before they get entangled in undesirable things.
