Wangsa Maju MP files police report after being defamed for neglecting PPR Traders
KUALA LUMPUR: Wangsa Maju MP, Zahir Hassan, has filed a police report against a group of individuals and related parties for defamation and baseless accusations made against him, which were published on social media.
According to the Wilayahku portal, he stated that the police report was made so that appropriate action could be taken against those involved in spreading false information and defamation against him.
“I hope the police will investigate this matter promptly and take necessary action,” he said after filing the report last night at the Setapak Police Station.
Earlier, Zahir explained that the police report was made following his viewing of a video on TikTok and Facebook yesterday afternoon that defamed him concerning allegations of neglecting traders at the Wangsa Sari People’s Housing Project (PPR).
He noted that the video has gone viral on social media and the baseless accusations have defamed him as a Member of Parliament.
“From the video, I understood that there is a group of individuals who I believe are traders at the Wangsa Sari PPR.
“They expressed dissatisfaction over the summons and eviction notices they received from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL),” he said.
Zahir clarified that among the accusations they made in the video was that he failed to meet with the traders regarding the notice.
He emphasized that the accusation is entirely unfounded.
“I have instructed my officers to arrange meetings with the involved parties, and so far, they are actively working to resolve the issue.
“At least two meetings have already been held with representatives of the Wangsa Sari PPR traders,” he said.
Further commenting, Zahir stated that the first meeting took place on September 13 at around 3 PM.
The second meeting occurred on September 18 at noon.
“Both meetings took place at my office in the Wangsa Maju Parliamentary Service Center, and I have evidence that these meetings did indeed happen.
“There are minutes of the meeting. Therefore, the issue of failing to hold meetings should not arise,” he said.
Zahir added that the second accusation was that he did not take action against the illegal factory mentioned in the video.
He asserted that this accusation is completely false.
“My team and I are working with the relevant authorities; we are collaborating closely with DBKL to resolve this issue comprehensively.
“I say comprehensively because I want a long-term solution that benefits all parties, not a short-term fix that might lead to other issues in the future.
“For this accusation, there is evidence of communication and discussions between my officers and the involved agencies,” he said.
Zahir also mentioned that he has been accused of being indifferent to the problems faced by the Wangsa Sari PPR traders.
He stated that this is a false accusation and a clear defamation.
“My team and I are always working to resolve the issues faced by residents, including arranging meetings to find the best solutions.
“Efforts are underway to address the issues raised, including the illegal factory and demolition notices.
“All these accusations are unfounded and aim to undermine my credibility as the Wangsa Maju MP and tarnish my reputation,” he said.
According to Zahir, all these accusations seem to portray that he does not care about the issue at all.
He emphasized that his role as an MP is merely to facilitate.
He stated that the enforcement powers lie with DBKL, and as a facilitator, he will work within the capacity available to him.
“My investigation also found that one of the individuals who defamed me in the video has a record of having been sued for defamation and has issued an apology,” he said.
Zahir also mentioned that he will seek legal advice for further legal action.
