Two Men Arrested Over Murder of Mother and Daughter in Penang

GEORGE TOWN, Oct 20: Police have arrested two men in connection with the brutal murder of a mother and her young daughter at their rented home in Kampung Sekolah Juru, Bukit Mertajam, on Saturday (Oct 18).

Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the suspects, a local man and a foreign national, both in their 40s, were detained separately on Monday (Oct 20).

“A thorough investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the killings. Police will bring both suspects to court tomorrow (Oct 21) to obtain a remand order. We believe they can assist in the investigation,” he said.

He added that police are also investigating whether other individuals may have been involved in the crime.

The victims, a 51-year-old kuih seller and her 11-year-old daughter, were found dead inside their home at around 7.30 p.m. on Saturday. Their bodies were discovered by the woman’s husband, who immediately alerted authorities.

The 57-year-old husband has also been remanded for seven days until Oct 25 to assist in the investigation.

The case has shocked the local community, with police vowing to bring all those responsible to justice.
