Two Indonesian Maids Believed Abused By Employer Found Safe, Granted Protection
JOHOR BAHRU: The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Johor Bahru has provided protection and assistance to two Indonesian women suspected of being victims of physical abuse by their employer in Johor.
A spokesperson said that both domestic workers, identified as YY and SH, have been placed at a temporary shelter under KJRI for protection and further assistance.
He said the consulate was made aware of the case on June 13 via an Indonesian national, identified as YY, who reported physical violence against herself and two other Indonesian nationals, YA and SH, who worked as domestic helpers in Johor.
According to the information received, the three women were allegedly frequently tortured by their employer while working.
He added that the consulate was informed the incidents also took place in late 2025 and January 2026.
“After the incident, the victims were abandoned by their employer in the Kampung Melayu Majidee area, Johor.
“Wishing to continue working in Malaysia, the three Indonesian nationals then went their separate ways.
“YA headed to Kuala Lumpur, while YY and SH remained in Johor,” he said in a statement today.
He said all three women were found to be working illegally in Malaysia without valid work permits.
According to him, their passports were still held by the employer, which made them afraid to report what had happened.
He said, however, YY eventually decided to report the ordeal she had suffered to the consulate.
“Following the report, KJRI in Johor Bahru immediately cooperated with the police and filed a complaint.
“Based on information received, the consulate was informed that on June 13, the Johor Bahru Utara District Police Headquarters (IPD) detained four individuals suspected of being involved in the case.
“In addition to taking in and placing YY and SH in temporary accommodation, the consulate, in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, is also making efforts to trace YA.
“This is so that the woman can also be given the same protection and assistance,” he said.
He said the consulate will also facilitate the police report process and provide legal advisory services to ensure the victims’ rights are upheld in accordance with legal procedures.
According to him, the consulate urges all Indonesian nationals wishing to work abroad to use official placement channels and comply with applicable regulations in order to obtain optimal legal and employment protection.
“They are also advised to channel any complaints via the KJRI JB KSATRIA WhatsApp hotline at +60105288040.
“The handling of this case is being intensively coordinated by the Consulate General of Indonesia in Johor Bahru, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Ministry (KP2MI), and the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to ensure integrated and optimal protection and legal assistance for the victims,” he said.

Police arrested four suspects aged between 30 and 34, around 7.30 pm the day before yesterday.
