SOFIA: Türkiye and Bulgaria have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key strategic sectors following high-level talks in the Bulgarian capital.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said his visit to Sofia underscored the strength of the longstanding ties between the two neighbouring countries and highlighted their shared vision for the future.

In a statement issued after the visit, Fidan said the strong bonds between Türkiye and Bulgaria continue to shape not only current relations but also the future of both nations.

He noted that the two countries are connected by deep historical, cultural, and human ties, which provide a solid foundation for expanding bilateral partnership and regional cooperation.

During his visit, Fidan held meetings with senior Bulgarian leaders, including Iliyana Yotova, Rumen Radev, and Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova.

According to Fidan, the discussions demonstrated significant potential to further strengthen collaboration in strategic areas such as energy, transportation, regional connectivity, and the defence industry.

“We will continue to work together in this direction,” he said, emphasising both countries’ commitment to advancing mutually beneficial projects and regional stability.

The Turkish foreign minister also met with members of the Turkish community in Bulgaria and expressed satisfaction at reconnecting with individuals he had known since his tenure at the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).

In addition, he held discussions with Turkish business leaders operating in Bulgaria, reviewing their contributions to economic development and bilateral trade.

Fidan praised the role of the Turkish community and entrepreneurs in supporting Bulgaria’s peace, prosperity, and economic growth, describing their achievements as a source of pride.

During the visit, he also attended the graduation ceremony for the 2025–2026 academic year at the Sofia Higher Islamic Institute, which he described as an important educational and cultural institution for Bulgaria’s Muslim community.

Fidan said meeting young graduates who remain committed to their faith, identity, and cultural heritage while preparing for the future gave him confidence and hope.

Türkiye, he added, remains determined to further strengthen relations with Bulgaria based on mutual respect, shared interests, and the principles of good neighbourliness.

The visit is expected to contribute to stronger political, economic, and cultural ties between the two countries while enhancing cooperation on regional and international issues.
