Malaysia, Ericsson Explore Deeper 5G and Digital Economy Cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is seeking to strengthen collaboration with global telecommunications company Ericsson to accelerate digital transformation, expand 5G adoption, and support the country’s growing digital economy.

During a courtesy meeting with an Ericsson delegation led by President and Chief Executive Officer Börje Ekholm, discussions focused on advancements in digital technology, wider deployment of 5G networks, and opportunities for enhanced cooperation to bolster Malaysia’s digital ecosystem.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of developing greener and more sustainable telecommunications infrastructure in line with Malaysia’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions.

Both sides discussed the need for greater participation by businesses in adopting 5G technology to improve productivity, drive innovation, and strengthen competitiveness across various sectors of the economy.

Malaysia welcomed Ericsson’s continued confidence in the country, particularly its recognition of the nation’s progress in building robust digital infrastructure, including the rollout of 5G networks, the expansion of data centre investments, and ongoing efforts to enhance digital security and sovereignty.

The government also praised Ericsson’s commitment to developing local talent through training initiatives, technology transfer programmes, and partnerships with Malaysian universities and educational institutions.

Officials noted that such efforts are crucial in preparing a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of the future digital economy and supporting the country’s long-term development goals.
