Istanbul, Türkiye: Turkish Airlines has announced the cancellation of 17 flights scheduled for Friday, January 9, and Saturday, January 10, to Tehran, Tabriz, and Mashhad in Iran due to ongoing regional developments.
In an official statement, the airline said, “Due to regional developments in Iran, a total of 17 flights scheduled to Tehran, Tabriz, and Mashhad have been cancelled.” Passengers were advised to check the latest flight status through the airline’s official website.
The cancellations come amid continuing protests across Iran, which began on 28 December at Tehran’s Grand Bazaar in response to the sharp depreciation of the Iranian rial and worsening economic conditions. The demonstrations have since spread to multiple cities across the country.
While Iranian authorities have not released official casualty figures, the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported that by the 12th day of protests, 42 people had been killed, including 8 security personnel, with dozens injured and 2,277 arrested.
The situation in Iran remains volatile, and travel disruptions are expected to continue as authorities manage widespread demonstrations.
