Trump Warns of Strikes on Iran’s Energy Sites if Talks Collapse

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could target Iran’s key energy infrastructure if ongoing negotiations fail to produce a quick agreement.

In a post on his platform Truth Social on Monday, Trump said talks aimed at ending the current conflict were making progress but stressed that time was limited.

“If a deal is not reached soon… we will completely destroy their electric plants, oil facilities, Kharg Island, and possibly desalination plants,” he said.

The warning comes as diplomatic efforts intensify to de-escalate tensions following weeks of joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iran, which began on February 28. The strikes have caused heavy damage and killed more than 1,300 people, including several senior Iranian officials.

Despite Trump’s claims of “serious discussions” with a “more reasonable” Iranian leadership, Tehran denied holding direct talks with Washington. Iranian authorities said any communication has taken place only through intermediaries.

Several countries, including Pakistan, Türkiye, and Egypt, are playing key roles in mediating between the two sides. Pakistan has even offered to host formal negotiations, while indirect talks are reportedly ongoing.

Iran has responded to the strikes with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and U.S.-linked sites across the region, including in Iraq, Jordan, and Gulf countries. These attacks have caused casualties and disrupted infrastructure, as well as affecting global oil markets and air travel.

The Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil shipments, remains a major point of concern. Trump emphasized that the waterway must be reopened quickly to avoid further economic disruption.

As both sides continue indirect negotiations, the situation remains tense, with the risk of further escalation if diplomacy fails.
