Trump Says Iran Ceasefire on ‘Life Support’ as He Slams Tehran’s Response

Donald Trump has sharply criticised Iran, saying the current ceasefire arrangement is in a critically weak state and describing Tehran’s latest response to a US proposal as “totally unacceptable”.

Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office in Washington, D.C. on Monday, Trump said the ceasefire was on “massive life support”, suggesting it was barely functioning.

“I would call it the weakest right now, after reading that piece of garbage,” Trump said, referring to Iran’s response delivered through mediators in Pakistan.

He said the Iranian reply took several days to arrive despite what he described as a “very simple” request from Washington and claimed that Tehran had failed to maintain consistency in its commitments.

“They sent us this document that we waited four days for that should have taken 10 minutes,” Trump said. He added that Iran had initially appeared to agree on key assurances, including restrictions on nuclear activity, but later shifted its position.

According to Trump, “They cannot have a nuclear weapon, and they didn’t say that in their letter.”

The former president also compared the ceasefire’s condition to a medical emergency, saying it was like a patient with only a “1% chance of survival”.

The ceasefire, according to reports, was first reached through mediation efforts involving Pakistan, following escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. The arrangement temporarily paused hostilities after a series of strikes and counter-strikes earlier in the year.

However, Trump said the latest diplomatic exchange shows little progress toward a durable agreement, warning that the situation remains unstable.

Iran has not yet issued a formal response to Trump’s latest remarks.
