WASHINGTON, Jan 23: US President Donald Trump said Thursday that “everybody is making concessions” in efforts to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, following his bilateral meetings in Davos, Switzerland, including with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One while returning to Washington after attending the World Economic Forum, Trump said his discussions focused on saving lives rather than financial matters. “It’s not about the money. It’s about 25,000 to 30,000 soldiers a month,” he noted.
Trump emphasized that his efforts are aimed primarily at saving lives, benefiting Europe more than the United States. Asked whether Russian President Vladimir Putin would make concessions, Trump said, “He’ll make concessions. Everybody’s making concessions to get it done. Europe is going to be a part of it … I’m doing this more for Europe than for me. I’m doing it to save lives, number one. I’m doing it secondarily for Europe.”
The hour-long meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy coincided with ongoing negotiations by US envoys with both Kyiv and Moscow. Zelenskyy described the meeting as “productive and substantive,” noting discussions on air defense support and daily coordination with US teams.
Earlier on Thursday, Zelenskyy announced that the first tripartite talks between the US, Russia, and Ukraine would be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday and Saturday.
