PUTRAJAYA: Strengthening governance and institutional management must remain a priority to ensure the confidence of depositors, investors and the domestic market in national institutions remains strong.
Economy Minister YB Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah bin Haji Mohd Nasir said the Government respects the ongoing investigation into the management and operations of Tabung Haji (TH), and that any action taken must be based on the law.
He said good governance at TH was important given the scale and role of the institution, which currently manages the trust funds of more than 9.8 million depositors, while also serving as one of the key institutional investors in the domestic economy.
With investments exceeding RM96 billion, strengthening TH’s governance has significant implications for confidence in the institution and the domestic market, particularly in ensuring that investment management, financial discipline and risk management continue to be strengthened.
As of early August 2026, TH reported that more than 75 per cent of the RCI recommendations had been implemented, while the remaining recommendations for improvement were still being carried out.
Efforts to strengthen the institution are also in line with the Ekonomi MADANI framework and the implementation of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) 2026–2030, which focuses on economic growth, improving the people’s standard of living and strengthening good governance.
At the same time, Malaysia’s economy recorded growth of 6.0 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, while growth for the first half of the year reached 5.7 per cent, compared with 4.5 per cent during the corresponding period last year.
The Ministry of Economy will continue to focus on the implementation of RMK13, particularly efforts to enhance productivity and competitiveness, accelerate quality investments and strengthen high-value employment to ensure that economic growth translates into higher incomes and an improved standard of living for the people.
