KUALA LUMPUR|| June 27: Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder of a 20-year-old female university student who was found dead in a student hostel in the Klang Valley earlier this week.
Sepang district police chief Asst. Comm. Norhizam Bahaman confirmed that the suspects—a man and two women, aged between 19 and 20—were detained during operations conducted in Johor Baru, Johor, and Gemencheh, Negri Sembilan, on Thursday (June 26) and early Friday (June 27).
“The arrests were made within 48 hours of the initial police report lodged on the incident,” he said when contacted.
All three suspects will be brought to the Sepang Sessions Court for a remand application. The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
ACP Norhizam urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information related to the case, warning that any action jeopardizing the investigation would be met with stern consequences.
Earlier reports revealed that the victim, a Bachelor of Physiotherapy student from Kuching, Sarawak, was discovered unconscious with visible injuries by a friend at around 10am on Tuesday (June 24). She was the only occupant in the hostel at the time, as her five roommates had returned home for the holidays on June 21. She had remained behind to prepare for an upcoming examination.
Several of the victim’s belongings were reported missing from the scene, including her ATM card, laptop, mobile phone, and cash. However, investigators confirmed there were no signs of sexual assault.
A post-mortem examination concluded that the victim died from blunt force trauma to the head.
The incident has sparked concerns over student safety, particularly for those residing in hostels during semester breaks. Investigations are ongoing.
